How to separate a song into stems.
Song Separator is a free online AI stem separator and vocal remover. Split a song into vocals and separate instruments directly in your browser, without uploading your audio to a server.
- Upload a song. Choose an audio file your browser can play, such as MP3 or WAV. Tracks can be up to six minutes long.
- Choose four or six stems. Standard separates vocals, drums, bass and other sounds. Studio adds individual guitar and piano stems.
- Preview and download. Play stems together or separately in the mixer, then export individual WAV files or download all separated stems as a ZIP.
Frequently asked questions.
Is it really free to use?
Yes! But if you found this tool useful and want to keep it running, a small donation made through Buy Me a Coffee is appreciated.
Does my audio get uploaded?
No. Both separation models run locally in your browser using WebGPU. The AI model files are downloaded to your device, but your recordings and separated stems aren't uploaded for processing.
What's the difference between Standard and Studio?
Standard uses HTDemucs to separate four stems: vocals, drums, bass, and other. It's faster and uses less local memory. Studio uses BS-RoFormer SW to produce six stems, adding guitar and piano, but requires more memory and GPU processing power.
Can I download the separated stems?
Download individual stems as WAV files or use Download all to get every separated stem in a ZIP file.
What if the separation isn't perfect?
AI separation estimates which sounds belong to each instrument. Depending on the recording, some instruments may bleed into other stems or produce audible artifacts, particularly in dense mixes.
Which browsers work best?
Current desktop Chrome or Edge with GPU acceleration work best. Safari 26 also supports WebGPU on macOS 26 (Tahoe) or later, although separation performance and compatibility vary by device. Safari on older macOS versions may not expose WebGPU. Studio is more demanding and may not run on devices with limited GPU or system memory.
